PALS-"Peer Assisted Learning Strategies"
PALS is a literacy program our students engage in everyday. Our PALS teacher is the wonderful Mrs. Proksch. Up to this point the students have learned all of the letter sounds and have been introduced to the sight words "and", "was", "on", "the" and "is". Sight words are words that students cannot sound out. They usually are not phonetically correct. The children learn these words through sight/memorization. It is easier for the students to 'read' these words by practising them often.
They have also begun to study word families. So far they have learned the -at family (cat, sat, bat,...) and the -an family (man, can, fan,...).
